Winner of the 2012 Richard Tucker Career Grant, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano is recognized for her naturally lustrous sound and fresh, appealing stage presence. Her voice is a voluminous one that’s characterized by “remarkable agility in her higher range and a molten contralto lower down, gliding between these registers with seeming ease” (Washington Post). Equally fêted for her work at the Met—particularly in Robert LePage’s Ring cycle—and on recital stages, Cano makes her PCMS debut with her husband, pianist Christopher Cano, in a wide-ranging program of songs sung in German, French, Russian and English.
